years brochure

The 14th Bridport Literary Festival welcomes all those who read books and love literature.

BridLit has expanded greatly over the years and we hope that our programme for 2018 is more intriguing and illuminating than ever before. An eclectic mix of writers on a variety of subjects promises to engage and entertain audiences of all tastes.
We open this year’s festival with the Bookshop Band at Sladers Yard – a feast of music and ideas, followed by the recently revised Pevsner book on DORSET with an illustrated talk by Michael Hill. The week is packed with fiction and non fiction with writers sharing their thoughts about writing and looking forward to feedback. Our eight days of literary highlights ends with a conversation between the award winning military historian Sir Antony Beevor and General Sir Barney White-Spunner about ARNHEM - a perfect subject for Remembrance Sunday. We have children’s entertainment with a literary flavour and Little Toller Books – our much cherished local publishing company – have curated a series of talks on nature writing at the newly restored Literary and Scientific Institute. The Tithe Barn at Symondsbury this year’s is venue for the George Millar Literary Dinner with Jonathan Powell, whose view of the political landscape is more optimistic than pessimistic.
At the back of this programme you will find information about an exciting new addition to this year’s BridLit - The BridLit Fringe which takes place at venues all around the town between 12th – 16th November. Don’t miss it!
