The Building of England - DORSET
Michael Hill

An illustrated talk

The ‘Pevsner’ Series, founded by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner in 1951, is the unrivalled source for an authoritative and comprehensive companion of information on the architecture of the British Isles. Dorset was one of the last counties covered by the series in 1972 and Pevsner’s share was confined to the churches, leaving the rest of the county to John Newman. The resulting volume, over 500 pages long, became the standard guide to the county’s buildings and an essential reference work.

Michael Hill’s newly revised and expanded edition offers a fresh and comprehensive account of the buildings of one of England’s best-loved and most beautiful counties - Dorset.

With its wonderful variety of building stones and glorious land and seascapes, Dorset offers visual pleasures which few English counties can match. Michael Hill’s richly illustrated talk offers a fresh account of Dorset’s magnificent inheritance as well as all the architectural highs and lows over the last five decades.
